Part 2. So Who is Jesus Christ?
When Jesus lived on earth people's attitude towards Him varied - just as people have different opinions about Him today. But what does the Bible say about Jesus - who is Jesus Christ?
(a) Look at the claims Jesus made - and the things He said about Himself:
- Mark 2: 1-12
- John 5: 16-27 "....Moreover, the Father judges no-one, but has entrusted all judgement to the Son, that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father..."
- John 10: 25-33
- John 11: 25-27
- John 14: 1-11 "If you really knew Me", said Jesus, "you would know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him... anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father... believe Me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves."
- John 8: 18-30, 48-59 "I tell you the truth", Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am". (Compare that statement of Jesus with Exodus 3: 13-14.)
- Revelation 1: 17-18, Revelation 22: 13-14
(b) Now look at what other people came to understand about Jesus:
- Matthew 16: 13-17
- John 1: 1-18 John the Apostle wrote, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning... the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us."
- John 20: 26-28: "My Lord and my God!"
- Colossians 1: 15-20
- Colossians 2: 9-10 "For in Christ all the fulness of the Deity lives in bodily form... the head over every power and authority."
For further reading on this theme, look at:
- Philipians 2: 6-11
- Hebrews 1: 1-4
- Isaiah 9: 6-7
- Revelation 1: 12-18
- Revelation 5: 6-14
Has your understanding of Jesus changed at all?.......
If so, in what way?........
Did you know - that it is God (by His Spirit) who reveals to people the true understanding of Jesus, His Divine Son - when those people are really searching for the truth? Look at:
- 1 Corinthians 12: 3
- 2 Corinthians 4: 6
