PELSALL EVANGELICAL CHURCH – YOUTH WORK COVID-19 RISK ASSESSMENT

This risk assessment is based on the following guidelines:

Definitions:  Group = 15 young people + 3 leaders.

  1.  
    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Exceeding the maximum of 15 young people in a group.
    2. Risk Control: Young people will pre-register so we know how many are coming.
    3. Responsible Person: Paula Hope

  2.  
    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Young people do not adhere to social distancing requirements.
    2. Risk Control: A discipline system will be in place where children will be told to adhere to the social distancing requirements of the group or they will be sent home and/or be banned for a week.

    4. Further Action: Parents and young people will be provided with the discipline procedure.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Groups may mix together in the church premises.
    2. Risk Control: The church will be cordoned off into two sections:
      1. Area A: the fellowship hall, large kitchen, toilets in the foyer and part of the car park.
      2. Area B: the main hall, small kitchen, toilet in the study and part of the car park.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Groups may mix together on arrival and exit to the building.
    2. Risk Control: There will be two entry and exit points, one for each group:
      1. Area A: Enter and exit through a side alley and through the fire doors at the side of the fellowship hall.
      2. Area B: Enter and exit through the car park and through the fire doors at the side of the main hall.
      3. There will be staggered start times. Each group will start and finish 15 minutes apart so parents arrive and leave at different times.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Games may result in social distancing requirements being neglected.
    2. Risk Control: The games at the club will be ones which are able to be played at a social distance. Discipline procedure will be in place to enforce rules.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: High touch areas becoming contaminated (Door handles and seats)
    2. Risk Control: nternal doors will be open to prevent use of handles. Each attender will have their own seat, which will be quarantined after use or will have been quarantined for at least 72 hours before the youth meeting.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Church building may not be covid secure due to it being used less than 72 hours before the club.
    2. Risk Control: After each use of the building the following places will be deep cleaned:
      1. Door handles
      2. Light switches
      3. Toilets
      4. Tables
      5. Any chairs will be quarantined and not used for at least 72 hours.
      6. This will be done by the volunteers that are leading a group.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Young people may not know which group they are in.
    2. Risk Control: Communication will be sent to parents before they register so that parents and young people know which group they are in and where they will enter and exit the building.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Cross-contamination from using the tuck shop.
    2. Risk Control: The queue for the tuck shop will be socially distanced. The consumables in the tuck shop will be individually wrapped bars of chocolate or cans of drink. The person running the tuck shop will be gloved and be at a distance.

    2. Risk Control: Signage on the door advising of symptoms reminding people that they must not enter building with symptoms.

    2. Risk Control: The crèche room will be designated as a safe space for anyone who begins to feel unwell or exhibit symptoms. A first aider will attend in that room and gloves and mask will be worn. Parents will be called and/or emergency services (if necessary).

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: A person who has attended a youth meeting tests positive for Covid-19
    2. Risk Control: A register of attenders will be kept with contact details. All attenders will be notified and PHE will be contacted for advise.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Poor ventilation leads to increased risk of infection.
    2. Risk Control: As much as possible we will play games outdoors and keep windows and doors open.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Toilet facilities lead to increased risk of infection.
    2. Risk Control: There will be one person allowed in the toilet at one time and this will be monitored by a designated leader. Hand sanitising stations will be placed outside the toilets to be used before entry – to prevent infection being taken into toilets and onto cubicle doors, etc.

    1. Risk/Area of Concern: Risk of virus passing on to surfaces from hands of attenders.
    2. Risk Control: Hand sanitising stations will be placed at the entrance and exit of the premises and attenders will be asked to use them. A leader will oversee this.

    2. Risk Control: Young people will be encouraged to bring their own Bibles. The pool tables, table tennis, xbox and table football will be unavailable during the period of the pandemic.
