The extension will consist of a two story extension to the front of the building. The ground floor will consist of primarily a large open plan area for a coffee shop and seating area, kitchenette and serving counter and toilets including disabled toilets.
The first floor will consist of a of a pastors office, a large open plan meeting room that could be configured into different size rooms, toilets and a drinks station.
Additionally a balcony will be constructed to provide additional seating in the main hall.
Currently Pelsall Evangelical Church consists of 160 members, we hold two Sunday services. The morning service has typically 180 attendees each Sunday with the seating 90% occupied. We have a large Sunday school of approximately 30 under 11s children and a crèche for toddlers and babies. We hold a number of meetings throughout the week including prayer meetings, coffee mornings, a community hub that is held through the autumn and winter months and two children’s meetings on a Friday evening one for under 11s and one for 11 to 16 year olds.
Over the last 3 or 4 years the church has grown significantly both in membership and visitors coming to hear God’s word. The project addresses a number of issues we currently face. The Sunday morning service is approaching the situation where we are effectively full. We have seat for approximately 200 people. The extension will allow us to put another 100 seats at the back of the main hall plus another 60 seats on the balcony. We also from time to time hold special services such as Christmas, Easter and harvest services for the local primary school and scout group. The additional seating would allow us not only to have the children attend but also their parents.
The building extension will also address issues we have with the size of our Sunday school which meets Sunday morning in our side hall. The additional space and rooms in the extension will allow more space for the children to meet and a more conducive environment for leaning about Jesus and the Bible.
